Angel Falls

The tallest waterfall on Earth - 979 metres off the edge of Auyán-tepui, so high the plume atomises to mist before it reaches the jungle below. There are no roads. Reaching it is a genuine expedition, and that is exactly the point.

Expedition - and we'd rather tell you than sell you. There is no road to Angel Falls. You fly into Canaima, then travel by motorised dugout canoe up-river and trek through jungle to the base - a guided trip of typically 2-3 days with basic lodging. It only runs in the wet season (June-November); dry months shrink it to a thread and drop river levels too low for the canoes. Not a day-trip, not a casual booking - plan it as a trip centrepiece, go with a reputable operator, and note Venezuela carries its own travel advisories.
